It might sound odd, but part of being a good entrepreneur is not working (or at least knowing when not to work and when to take breaks). The person that works continually never gets a chance to ‘recharge their batteries’ and appreciate what they’ve done (and whether they’ve done it well), and they’ll slowly lose motivation and enthusiasm for their tasks, resulting in shoddier and shoddier work.
Obviously I’m not saying that you should be lazy and neglect the important work that must be done, but don’t become a workaholic. Remember that leading a balanced life will cause every aspect of your life to be better (from your finances to your relationships and your health).
So how do you do this? Firstly, remember to take rest days. The day(s) you decide to take will be different for everyone, but I like to take weekends off, since most of my friends also have weekends off (meaning I can easily meet up with them and not have to worry about work). Having friends that you see regularly and socialising is very important.
Secondly, make sure that you stay healthy. I’ve found that since I’ve been getting outdoors and doing regular exercise, my whole enthusiasm for life has gone up a level (which feels great!)
Lastly, remember that it’s important to have both long and short-term goals. You want targets that you’re aiming towards (such as weekly, monthly or yearly targets) along with individual goals (such as ‘write 2000 words a day’ or ‘call 5 clients’).
