Home Business Startup – What Should You Sell?

0

Learning to market your product or service is the most important part of a home based business. If you don’t understand the importance of reaching your niche market to introduce them to your products or services, you don’t stand a chance of making any money.

Where should you begin?

The biggest question for most start-up entrepreneurs is, “What should I sell?” If you are having a problem deciding what you should sell there are two things that you should consider.

1) What are your interests?

Do you like to read? What subjects are you most interested in reading about, fiction, nonfiction?

Do you like to play video games? Which games do you like best?

Are you a good cook? What are some of your special dishes?

Do you love to hunt or fish? Where are some of your favorite hunting or fishing spots?

Do you like sailing, camping, mountain climbing?

I could go on and on but I think you get what I’m trying to point out here…

There are tens of thousands of niche markets you can choose from but if you narrow it down to the things you are interested in it will make it a lot easier for you to decide what niche market you want to go after.

2) What problem can you solve?

Most every market has at least one problem that needs to be solved.

For example here is a niche market that I’m a part of: I’m losing my sight. I receive a newsletter called The Braille Forum. The newsletter has a section that offers products and services to help people who are having problems with their vision.

As I was listening to this newsletter on audio tape, there was an offer for a device that could read the denomination of a dollar bill. This is a gadget that would come in real handy for me because it solves a problem that I have right now. Instead of straining to see the denomination on a bill, I could simply use this little device to solve my problem.

So, you see, this is a perfect example of offering a product or service to solve a problem. Very likely I will be ordering this product.

It’s easy to sell to a niche market with a problem, especially if they are desperate for a solution. They already know they have a need. You only have to convince them that your product will solve their problem.

The example above also demonstrates the advantage of having some interest or connection with the product or offer that you might want to market. First of all your interest will motivate your marketing efforts. Secondly, it enables you to understand your customer’s pain and convincingly present a solution.
