There are so many great bloggers to follow and PDF downloads to study, I don’t seem to have enough time to read ‘proper’ books any more. By that I mean business and reference books, because I’m a regular visitor at the local library and still devour my favourite fiction authors at a rate of 2-3 a week!
Whereas I used to relish the week or more of study time demanded by a weighty tome, now I want information delivered in small, easy to digest short reports and lessons. Multi-media presentations – webinars and teleseminars – make a welcome change from all those typed words and it sometimes feels like the internet is a gigantic classroom!
Another reason for the change in my reading habits could be the topics I’m studying – mostly the different ways to use the internet and social media for small business marketing. The latest tools and tips can easily be found online but as they’re changing so fast, any printed book will almost be out of date almost before the ink is dry.
I currently spend around an hour each day reading blog posts, and sometimes a whole morning at the weekend catching up with videos and podcasts online. That’s all the learning I want to do and all I have time for, although a Kindle might come in handy.
