Being an entrepreneur requires a ton of guts. Sometimes it is hard to break out of the traditional way of thinking that our parents have taught us as children. In the earlier days and even today, many people are convinced that you must work hard to earn money and that security can only be found in working a job with good benefits. But the truth is, there is no security in working a job, I have seen some of the best employees get laid off from what they thought was a secure job.
Many people are stuck in the old paradigm of thinking that they can work a job for forty years and retire with a good pension plan. Good luck on that one. Our education system does not have a curriculum on how to become an entrepreneur or how to become wealthy. That is why the minds of our children are stuck in the traditional way of creating income. I went to college to pursue a degree in business, and mostly what I had studied and learned from the text books was how to be an employee. Maybe I missed something during those classes, but I graduated Sigma Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Business Management with a 3.9 GPA. College taught me how to study, but my true entrepreneur skills came from the real world, no text book theories.
Those who think outside of the box are able to eradicate that old mind set and are able to spread their wings and soar into entrepreneurism.
It is believed that poverty can be passed down from generation to generation just as wealth can be passed down. Having a leadership perspective of your own life is one of the ways to overcome the so called old paradigm of having others tell you how to pursue your dreams and aspirations. This will take a great deal of courage and you will experience some fear as well but this is one of those good kinds of fear. The fear comes from the unknown or unawares of the business world. This should not be looked at in a bad way. It could mean that your dream of owning a business is so big, that it actually scares you. One of my mentors once said “So what, if you are scared? Do it anyway. Just please, go do it!”
Motivation can be found everywhere, but having a good mentor could make it much easier as you pursue your dreams of becoming an entrepreneur.
It is very important to have people around that have the same goals and dreams so you would have someone to hold you accountable and push you farther toward attaining your goal of starting your business. Personal motivation and team building are essential components in becoming an entrepreneur. You will need the help and support of other people to carry your vision.
Nothing can be done without courage, vision and precise decision making habits. Once you make the decision to become an entrepreneur, act on it and have a burning desire to see it through. Will there be obstacles? Absolutely, but just remember that it is for the common good of all when you step out on faith and pursue entrepreneurship. The great aspect about being an entrepreneur is that when you succeed, other people benefit as well. Many jobs have been created because someone had the courage to be entrepreneur.
