Small Business Marketing – How to Create a Brochure For Your Small Business

0

When you operate a small business you really have to take advantage of every opportunity to market it.  Small business marketing goes far beyond placing ineffective ads in your local paper.  There are scores of marketing strategies that can be used, including one that not many people consider, which is the lowly brochure.

Just about every business has a brochure of some form or another.  And just about every brochure is nothing more than a boring list of services with ego driven copy that will bore you to tears.  Brochures are great for giving information about your small business, but why not market yourself in there as well?  Every communication you have with potential customers is a marketing opportunity and your brochure is no different.

Let’s start with the copy.  Copy is King.  Copy is what sells everything.  Design is also important, but as an accompaniment to engaging, persuasive copy.  Don’t believe me?  Find some award winning, persuasive copy and put it on a blank paper.  Then find the most stylish, creative design you have ever seen and send that out with no words.  Which do you think will make more sales?  Exactly.  Copy rules…design is there to enhance the copy.

And the truth is, most brochure copy is nothing more than ego driven nonsense.  Lots of ‘I’ and ‘We’ without any thought as to who may be reading.  Brochure copy is the same as any other copy.  It must engage the reader and show them how doing business with you will benefit their life.

Include a brief bio, show your services, even show your prices.  But always remember to engage and persuade.  Throw an offer in there.  Have a definite call to action to get them to do something.  And start with the copy, then create the design to enhance the words.  It is the words that are going to spread your message, not your fancy graphics.

If you can follow these few tips you’ll be on your way to creating small business brochures that really have an impact, and leave your competitors in the dust.
